If you have been thinking about what to avoid when trying to lose weight and get rid of that belly bulge, then you should watch your diet carefully.

Tip #1 Avoid Fatty Foods

The number one food on the avoid list is high fat stuffs. This is the first and most important step of all. Stay away from fatty and oily foods. These foods, especially fried ones are not only high in calories, but also loaded with fats and oils. Even if the cooking oils are drained away from the fried foods, there are still plenty of hidden oils and fats inside the foods. As a general rule of thumb, it would be wise to limit the amount of fat intake in your diets to no more then one third of the total calories consumed per day.

You can find out the nutrition content by looking at the product labels when purchasing your foods. To have a rough idea on how much fat a product contains, simply multiply the weight of the fat content (in grams) on the product label by 7 to obtain its total calories. One way of lowering the amount of oil in foods in home cooking is to use a non stick pan to do your cooking. That way, you can minimize your excessive oil consumption.

You should also opt for low fat alternatives when shopping for diary products such as low fat cheese, skimmed milk, zero fat yogurt and so on. There are in fact plenty of low fat or even fat free products available out there in the markets so why not choose them instead.

Tip #2 Avoid Sweet Foods

Sweet stuffs are the next foods to avoid to lose weight. Generally sweet foods contain a lot of sugar, and sugar is a substance that you would best stay away as it is not only packed with calories, it is also bad for health. Do not indulge too much in sugary foods as they can make you fat. If you have a sweet tooth, use all means to control it. Always remember that sweet foods mean more calories and therefore it requires you to do even more physical activity such as exercises and workouts to burn the calories off.

Typical sweet foods to avoid include chocolates, cakes, ice creams, candies and sweetened drinks. You should also look for hidden sugars in drinks such as coffee and tea. Where possible, replace sugar with sugar substitutes as they still taste as sweet but minus the calories. Besides sweetened drinks, alcoholic beverages are not good for you too. alcoholic beverages when taken in excess can be fattening as they stimulates the release of a hormone in the body that encourages calories to be stored as fat especially in the abdomen region.

Tip #3 Avoid Red Meat

The number 3 stuff to avoid is red meat. Red meat are not only high in saturated fat, but they are also high in cholesterol. Switch to fish and turkey instead. Fish such as salmons contains omega-3 fatty acids which are good for health.

Also, include more vegetables and fruits in your diets. Have fresh and raw vegetables instead of canned vegetables or vegetables that have been cooked. Eating raw vegetables are healthier as they contain more vitamins and minerals compared to the others, but if you must cook them, then go for steaming rather than boiling as the latter can remove up to half as much nutrients in the vegetables. When you are hungry in between meals, try to snack on vegetables instead.

This is definitely something that you can control very well. Eggs on the other hand should be limited to a maximum of 3 a week for adults as the egg yolk are high in cholesterol. If you need to consume more than 3 eggs a week, then you should consider consuming the egg whites alone.

Tip#4 Eating Right

The way to eating right is to have 4 to 6 small meals a day. Contrary to popular believe of having 3 square meals a day as the right way of eating, eating 4 to 6 meals a day are actually healthier and can even help you to lose weight. Try to have the food at the fixed times of the day and especially with breakfast as it is the most important meal of the day. Also, do not make a habit of skipping meal.

Breakfast is best taken within an hour of waking up so that your body can have the sufficient energy to start the day. The idea of having more meals per day is not to allow your body to get really hungry and then overeat. Do not eat just for the sake of eating. Eat when you are feeling hungry at the fixed time and just eat less of everything. That way, with more small meals everyday, your metabolism rate is kicked at the high gear for most of the time during the day thereby helping you to burn more calories along the way and ultimately to make your weight loss a possible dream.
