Causes of Split Ends

by April Leave a Comment

Have you ever wondered about the many different causes of split ends? You already know that getting a regular haircut is a great way to diminish the chances, but aren’t there other things that can be done? Finding out the overlying problem is a great way to fix it right at the root causes.

Generally, split ends can be considered dead hair which is caused by the lack of moisture. Being the farthest away from the nurturing root of the hair strand prevents the line of nutrients from reaching it and therefore causing the problem of split ends eventually.

It is unfortunate to know that this patch of dead hair can in fact travel upwards. This means that if they are not cut, the hair will continue to grow along with your split ends. In other words, your next haircut will essentially be most of your hair.

Know the Cause of Split Ends and Reduce Their Appearances!

By figuring out the cause of split ends, you can actually control and avoid the occurrence as well as the times you visit your hair stylist. After all, this can be quite costly just for a couple of annoying pieces of hair. So, what are some of the causes of split ends?

First off, brushing your hair often especially when your hair is wet can easily rip and tear your hair causing these dry ends. Once the hair rips, the line of moisture is broken and therefore resulting in dead and dry hair.

Unfortunately, every time you run a comb through your hair, this is occurring. However, by reducing the times that you hair needs to be brushed daily will help with diminishing the unsightly nuisance of split ends. Your best chance is to leave your hair alone as much as possible. The average brushing is fine and necessary, but tries to refrain from excessively combing if you are often suffering from this trouble.

Get Yourself A Wooden Comb

Alternatively, you should also try using a wooden comb in exchange of a plastic one. Plastic comb although cheap, when run through your hair repeatedly can build up static charges which could in turn cause damage to your hair. Very few people know about this and it is one of the main culprits for hair problems such as split ends, fragile hair, hair breakage, and even hair loss. So switch to wooden comb especially one with large tooth today to minimize the damage done to your hair.

Watch Your Diet!

In addition to brushing your hair, many people are also unaware that diet can also be a huge culprit as well. If you are not ingesting enough vitamins and water, then your body will not produce the right amount to maintain great hair and skin. Therefore, it is essential that you drink plenty of water and have nutritious healthy diet each day. Also make sure that you are including healthy fatty acids in your diet to help your body stay replenished.

Drying Your Hair

And like the causes of hair breakage, the leading cause of split ends is also due to the use of hair dryers and other heating appliances. The large blast of heat will easily strip layers of natural oils that keep the hair healthy. The more often this is done, the more likely you will see the occurrence of split ends. But luckily, there are protectors that can be applied prior to using a blow dryer that will offer additional moisture to help with the reduction of natural oils.

Lastly, it’s time to find an alternative way to dry your hair. Many people use towels to dry, toss, and squeeze their hair. Unfortunately, the soft process of drying becomes a harsh pull and tangle that cuts half the time. It may seem convenient, but it is increases your visits to the hairdresser. This is another common cause of split ends that can also be easily avoided. It is recommended to softly pat down and squeeze the hair to fully dried, or better yet, let it dry naturally on its own.

This prevents the breaking and damage that is also known to cause the aggravating occurrence of dead hair. Now that you know about the main causes of split ends, you can take that information and reduce the occurrence with ease. Read the simple how to treat split ends here.
