How High Fiber Foods Protect Your Teeth

Want to find out what is the most effective tooth pain relief diet? Yes, there have been many similar diets around but many do not know that apart from simply reducing sugar intake, fruits and vegetables are also equally important and they too play an important role in preventing tooth decay too.

Diet for tooth pain is no doubt vital for the health of your teeth. There is no deny it that diet is one of the most important factor in determining your dental health.

If you have been experiencing tooth pain, chances are that your diet is not tooth friendly. Taking too much sugary foods is one of the main causes of tooth decay. Sugar feeds the decay causing bacteria on your teeth which in turn erodes the enamel – the hard mineralized surface of your teeth that protects the dentine and dental pulp within. Over time, when enough destruction is done on your tooth, cavity forms. This is where the tooth decay ultimately causes tooth pain as the sensitive inner part of the teeth is exposed. In more severe cases, your dental pulp could even be infected with bacteria. Read also about tooth pain relief home remedies here.

As there is no way you can reverse the damage done on your teeth, there is at least a way you can control it, that is through altering your diet. A proper diet for healthy teeth is a very simple diet that basically anyone can follow. It is simply a combination of more fruits and vegetable intake coupled with sugar restriction. Why more fruits and vegetables and not sugar reduction alone? Let’s find out.

Healthy Teeth With High Fiber Diets

As anyone would have already known that sugar is the number one enemy of the tooth, restricting sugar intake is a key to dental health. Fruits and vegetables are also equally important because of the high content of fiber they contain. Studies have found that fibers in fruits can help reduce the food particles and plaque from accumulating around your teeth.

Foods such as biscuits and chocolates are particularly unhealthy towards the teeth not only for their high sugar content but also the sticky particles that they tend to leave behind accumulating on your teeth.

Fibers on the other hand, have been found to be able to get rid of these food particles as they rub against your teeth and removing them away at the same time. Fibers are even referred to as “detergent for the teeth” by some dentists. You can include some high fiber foods as part of your tooth pain relief diet especially fruits such as apple, pear and guava.

As such, taking these foods high in fiber at the end of your meal is highly recommended for the health of your teeth!
