Home Remedies For Stinky Shoes

Do you know what causes stinky shoes? Bad odor in shoes is caused by bacteria growing in the warm and moist environment which your shoe provides. To get rid of the scent in your shoe you need to make it difficult for bacteria to grow therefore it is important to keep your feet and shoe dry which will make it make it an uninviting environment for bacteria to grow.

There are many treatments to get rid of the bad odors. Although you can get some sprays and powders that you can purchase from your local stores or pharmacies to help get rid of stinky odors from your shoes, there is however also a few practical home remedies for stinky shoes that you can try to get rid of the embarrassing problem.

  • Whenever your shoe becomes wet allow them to thoroughly dry before putting them on. Coating them with talcum powder or put paper inside them to help them dry. You can also place your shoes in the dryer, however let them cool properly before putting them back on.
  • When you take your shoe off in the evenings place baking soda in them, then put them in a zipper bag and place them in the freezer. The temperature in the freezer will surely kill the bacteria allowing the odor to be absorbed by the baking soda. After removing them from the freezer let them air for a while to get rid of any extra moisture.
  • Rubbing alcohol has many benefits one of which is for its disinfectant properties. Coat the inside of your shoes with alcohol then leave them in an area which is properly ventilated. Bacteria do not strive with alcohol so they will be exterminated and your shoe will lose its bad odor. Do this on a regular basis to keep the inside of your shoe clean and free from any bacterial growth.
