Bursitis Home Treatment

You know massages have therapeutic effects, right? But did you know that there’s not just Swedish, Thai or Shiatsu? There’s ice massage, too! And this one has no “relaxing” effect. What it does is, it gives you pain relief and at the same time, provides you with the therapy that can help your body win the fight against bursitis.

Ice massage is so effective when used as bursitis home treatment. In fact, an ice pack has long been part of pain management approaches for many painful aches or injuries including sprains, injuries due to overuse of muscles, and of course bursitis. Icing helps ease the pain and inflammation and is often regarded as a good and quick relief bursitis home treatment.

But you have to do it right to prevent any negative side effect. In actuality, it is most effective when done immediately after you have just suffered an injury. Thus it is best when performed quickly. Applying ice directly onto the swollen area, moving it around and then not letting it stay steady on one surface for too long is the correct way of doing it.

Using a circular motion, rub a pack of ice cubes gently on the surface of the affected area. To further reduce the swelling, it is advisable to elevate that specific body part that you are icing to a level higher than the heart. It is also important to keep track the time while you are doing this. Icing should only be done for 15 to 20 minutes, never more.

Overdoing it could cause further tissue damage or even frostbite. However, you can repeat the ice massage as often as you like as long as you allow at least a 45-minute break in between the icing sessions. It’s also important for the affected area to remain warm to the touch and to have regular, normal sensations before giving it the massage.
