Many people do not have the understanding of hair loss problem. The average hair strand survives for up to four and a half years. After that, the hair strand will fall and then replaced a new strand of hair within a period of 6 months. Our hairs grow on average, about a millimeter each day, or about an inch each month. The common term “hair loss” is in fact not totally referred to as a loss of hair, it is merely a situation where our bodies stop producing hair.

Although it is important that you have the proper understanding of hair loss problem, getting to the root of hair loss problem and its causes are vital. Hair loss is typically attributed to many causes among them are; aging, heredity and the hormone testosterone. Normally, the level of hair thickness in both men and women reduce gradually with age.

In men, the hair loss and hereditary baldness are generally caused by the level of testosterone hormone produced in the body. As such, hereditary baldness affects more men than women. Men who do not produce much testosterone hormone on the other hand, does not encounter these baldness patterns.

In contrast, hair loss in women are generally linked to genetics issues more than anything else although being pregnant and age-related attributes may also sometimes influence the hair loss. Besides, sudden physical and emotion changes can also lead to hair loss. Issues such as childbirth, critical emotional stress, infections as well as medications and dieting could have a part to play.

It is not uncommon to see some women who age between 30 and 60 years experience a gradual reduction of hair. There are reports about the hair loss being heavy in the very beginning with lots of hair strands stuck in the comb while combing the hair or the hairs dropping out during showers. The reports however, also show that the rate of hair loss gradually decreases as they get older. For this kind of hair loss pattern, there is still no conclusive reason or understanding of this hair loss problem to date.

When Should You Be Worried About Your Hair Loss Problem?

If your hair loss has been a result of menopause or childbirth. You need not worry much as it is a temporary condition that should return to normal within 6 months to 2 years. For hair loss that are caused by radiation therapy such as chemotherapy or other illnesses on the other hand, your hair will grow back naturally when your health improves after the medication.

No treatment is needed in this case though. However if you experience hair loss problem that is severe or you suspect you have abnormal hair loss, it would be wise to seek medical help from a doctor or any medical practitioner who has all the understanding of hair loss problem.
